TORONTO, ON – To cap off the third weekend of training camp, the Calgary Roughnecks faced off against the Buffalo Bandits in a scrimmage at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre.
The Roughnecks held a 3-2 lead after the first quarter, but they would relinquish that lead in the second quarter and never get it back.
The Bandits held on to win the contest 12-11.
“I thought we needed to work on our discipline,” Curt Malawsky said about his teams’ 12 penalties. “We let the refs make some judgement calls and they didn’t go our way, but thats the game. I thought overall we played a pretty good game, but we need to stay out of the box.”
Rookie Wesley Berg was the Roughnecks leading scorer, compiling three goals and two assists. Curtis Dickson (2g, 1a), Jeff Shattler (3g), and Tyler Digby (1g, 1a) all had strong performances for the Riggers.
Calgary’s coach was impressed by the play of the fourth pick from the 2015 NLL Draft.
“Wesley Berg had a great game. He made a lot of great plays and was able to find the back of the net a few times. Curtis Manning also played a heck of a game. He was a steady force for us on the backend.”
