THE OTHER BENCH: MINNESOTA SWARM
A quick scouting report on the Roughnecks next opponent

No one in the NLL has a team as young as the Minnesota Swarm.

Scanning their roster, only two players (Callum Crawford and Ryan Benesch) have more than five years experience in the circuit. Keep in mind those are two of the best players when they are on their game, but from top to bottom, this team runs on the fuel of youth.

During the 2012 NLL Draft, they selected Brock Sorensen, Kiel Matisz, Shayne Jackson and Alex Crepinsek all in the first round. Jackson and Matisz are second and fourth on the team in scoring, respectively.

A grand total of 14 players are in either their rookie or sophomore seasons.

It seems to work for them though, with a West Division Final appearance last year, and picking up their second win of the season last weekend against the Toronto Rock.

No way around it, the Roughnecks will have experience on their side on Saturday night.

Between the pipes, the Swarm seem to switching between Tyler Carlson and Evan Kirk, with Carlson owning better numbers between the two.

THREE PLAYERS TO WATCH
1. Ryan Benesch – He’s the leader of the important stat categories for the team with 10 goals, 16 assists and 26 points. Since he arrived in Minnesota in 2010, he’s averaged over 80 points a season, and is on pace to break that standard this year.

2. Callum Crawford – Some people forget that at one point Crawford was a second round pick of the Roughnecks. He lasted one year in Cowtown, seeing action in five games before he was left unprotected in the expansion draft. It took him a few years to reach his potential, but Crawford has combined with Benesch to create a dynamic 1-2 offensive punch in the last three seasons.

3. Kiel Matisz – A member of the rebuilding core with the Swarm, the rookie has impressed in his short time. After joining the Swarm courtesy of the third overall draft pick, the righty has secured nine goals and 17 points.
