One spot left: Colorado gets in with a win, East seeding still to be determined

The National Lacrosse League has announced playoff scenarios for Week 17 with just two more weekends left in the 2014 NLL regular season. Just one NLL postseason spot remains after the Toronto Rock punched their ticket as the third and final seed in the East Division this past weekend, leaving the Colorado Mammoth and Vancouver Stealth to battle it out for the last berth in the West Division. Six teams will enter the playoffs but only one can hoist the Champion's Cup.

There are five games scheduled for this weekend, starting on Friday with the Buffalo Bandits at Toronto Rock for a preview of their single-elimination East Division Semifinal playoff game.

Buffalo then heads to Rochester to take on the regular season East-champion Knighthawks on Saturday night. Shortly after, the Colorado Mammoth look to clinch their spot with a win in Minnesota against the Swarm. Later on, the near-perfect 15-1 Edmonton Rush host the Calgary Roughnecks for another 'Battle of Alberta' rematch before the Vancouver Stealth take on the visiting Philadelphia Wings to cap off the action.

Overall scenarios:

The Buffalo Bandits can clinch second place in the East and home field advantage in first round of playoffs with one win OR one Toronto Rock loss in any remaining games.

In the West, the Colorado Mammoth can clinch a playoff berth with a win OR Vancouver Stealth loss in any remaining games.

Rochester Knighthawks (12-4)
-Have clinched East Division title and home field advantage through the first two rounds of the playoffs.

Buffalo Bandits (8-7)
-Have clinched a playoff berth.
-Can clinch home field advantage in the first round of playoffs with:
Win Friday at Toronto OR Win Saturday at Rochester.

Toronto Rock (7-9)
-Have clinched a playoff berth.

Philadelphia Wings (5-11)
-Eliminated from playoff contention.

Minnesota Swarm (4-12)
-Eliminated from playoff contention.

Edmonton Rush (15-1)
-Have clinched West Division title and NLL top overall seed with home field advantage throughout playoffs.

Calgary Roughnecks (10-6)
-Have clinched playoff berth and home field advantage in the first round of playoffs.

Colorado Mammoth (6-10)
-Can clinch playoff berth with a win OR Vancouver loss.

Vancouver Stealth (4-11)
-Can be eliminated from playoff contention with a loss OR Colorado win.

Before the start of the season, the league reduced the number of teams who qualify for the playoffs from eight to six teams, featuring the top three clubs in each division's standings. The crossover rule no longer applies. The two regular season division champions will earn a first-round bye as top seeds. The second seed will host the third seed in their respective division for the single-game elimination Division Semifinal in the first round.

Also new to the postseason format, the Division Finals and Championship both expand to a two-game series from the previous single-game elimination setup. The top seed from each division will play the winner of the Division Semifinal game between the second and third seeds, with the lower-seeded team hosting the first game and the higher (best) seed hosting the second game of the series.

Teams who win both games shall win the two-game series. In the event of a series split with both teams winning one game, a 10-minute tiebreaker game will be played immediately following the conclusion of the second contest to determine the winner of the playoff series.
