The Calgary Roughnecks announced today the signing of defender and assistant captain Mike Carnegie to a one-year contract.
Originally signed as a free agent by the Roughnecks in 2008, Carnegie will enter his fifth season with Calgary.
Earlier this summer Carnegie was a member of Team Canada's gold-medal team at the World Indoor Lacrosse Championships in Prague, Czech Republic.
Carnegie, 27, works as a survey analyst with Stantec Geomatics in Calgary.
Last season Carnegie had four goals, two assists, 87 loose balls and 25 forced turnovers.
“Mike is a key part of the Roughnecks leadership group and a strong defender who is tough to play against, said Roughnecks general manager Mike Board. “We consider him an important part of the core group of our team. He is also a proven winner, having won an NLL championship, two Mann Cup championships and, more recently, a gold medal with Team Canada.
Head Coach of the Roughnecks Dave Pym states, “Mike Carnegie epitomizes the mental and emotional essence of Roughnecks ball which is why his signing is of such importance to our team. His technical and tactical understanding of our defensive system is second to none. He is a tremendous ambassador for our team and the league.
