A pair of Riggers have captured weekly NLL awards.
The National Lacrosse League has announced the winners of the Weekly Player Awards for Week 10 of the 2012 season.
Shawn Evans of the Calgary Roughnecks has been voted the Offensive Player of the Week. Evans scored six goals, including one on a penalty shot, assisted on two others and collected a total of seven loose balls to help Calgary sweep a series from Edmonton, 13-10 on Friday and 16-9 on Saturday.
Washington Stealth goaltender Tyler Richards was named the Defensive Player of the Week. After missing three weeks due to injury, Richards returned on Sunday and stopped 40 of 48 shots faced as Washington defeated Colorado 11-8 for a split of the weekend series and the team's first win at home this season.
Peter McFetridge, a teammate of Evans with Calgary, was selected as Transition Player of the Week. McFetridge finished with three goals, two assists and scooped up 11 loose balls in Calgary’s weekend sweep of Edmonton. All five of his points were scored during Saturday’s 16-9 home win to set a new single-game high.
Adam Jones has been named Rookie of the Week for the second time this season. The Colorado Mammoth forward had three goals and eight assists this past weekend as the Mammoth split a two-game set with Washington. Jones notched three goals and four assists in Saturday’s 13-11 win in Denver before chipping in with four assists Sunday’s 11-8 loss at Washington. Jones totaled eight loose balls in the two games.
The weekly player award winners are selected by a vote of the league’s general managers and head coaches.
