What you’ll do

As a member of the Drill Crew you are required to:

  • Perform at up to 3 playoff games in May and June (dates TBD)
  • Participate and sell the annual calendar and home games and other events

What to know before you audition

Hair and makeup should be done as you envision it for game day or a photo shoot.

Hair should be worn down, and styled big and professional. Makeup should look dark and glamorous.

Shorts and a half top are mandatory. Bright colours are preferred and will make you stand out. Footwear should be jazz shoes, or runners that you can turn and jump in.

The audition process will be composed of across the floor, and a one minute routine.

Be prepared to learn some fast choreography – applicants will then be split into small groups to perform in front of a panel of judges.

About the Drill Crew

The Drill Crew is comprised of 18 women ranging in age from 18-29. They come from a variety of dance backgrounds, the majority of them being classically trained from a very young age. On the floor you can see a variety of routines ranging from jazz to hip hop.

Being a member of the Drill Crew involves performing at all nine home games plus playoffs. Along with the dancing comes many other components to the team. They are ambassadors representing the Calgary Roughnecks and Drill Crew brand. There is a wide range of community events and promotions they are expected to be at. Being able to interact with fans is a must.

The Drill Crew hosts an annual dance camp during the season. This targets young girls ages 3-12, who get the opportunity to not just meet the Drill Crew, but dance alongside them at a halftime show.

The Drill Crew annually produce a calendar which all the girls are featured in. You can find the girls busy in the stands selling it when not dancing at all home games. They are well-rounded, team players on and off the floor.

Is being a Drill Crew member a paid position?

Yes. The Drill Crew are paid to perform at all home games. Other opportunities for payment may arise from promotional appearances. Sponsorships are offered to all Drill Crew members for a gym membership, hair/makeup deals, tanning and season tickets. The Drill Crew also fundraises annually to do a team trip, and other travel opportunities may arise.

Prep Class

This year we will be offering an audition prep class prior to the audition.

This is your chance to meet and work closely with the choreographer before the actual audition! It’s also an opportunity to brush up on your dance if you’ve been out of the game for a little while. The format will be a dance class, but in a mock audition set up.

You will work on steps that will be in the audition to prep yourself for the big day. You will also learn part of a routine that the Drill Crew will be performing at a game later this year.

This is a great opportunity to calm those nerves prior to the audition, meet some of the veteran dancers and start getting used to picking up the choreography.

If you are unsure about trying out, this is a great introduction to the team without the pressure of the audition.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SESSION OFFERED, AND IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED FOR A SUCCESSFUL AUDITION.

The next prep class will be held Monday, September 16 from 7:45-10 PM at Goodlife Canyon Meadows location. A $10 fee is collected at entry.

Auditions will be held Monday, September 23 from 8-11 PM at Goodlife Canyon Meadows location. A $15  fee is collected at entry.

Junior Program

The junior program is for advanced dancers ages 16-25 who would like to join the team in years to come. This is an opportunity to train with the Drill Crew during the season and perform at a game. This opportunity is by invitation only.  In order to get into our system, dancers are required to attend our prep class and/ or the audition.
