Led by Haiden Dickson, the Roughnecks treated their largest crowd of the season to a thrilling 13-9 victory over the Ottawa Black Bears

Dickson scored four goals and added two assists to surpass the 200-point plateau in his NLL career as the Roughnecks (4-9) avenged an 11-9 loss they suffered to the Black Bears (8-6) in Ottawa on Feb. 7.

Brayden Mayea and Tanner Cook each contributed with hattricks to go with three helpers, while Tyler Pace scored once and set up five others in front of 15,296 raucous fans on hand at the Rough House for the St. Patrick’s Day Party presented by Dairy Farmers of Canada.

Once again, Aden Walsh was solid in net as he made 38 saves to backstop the Riggers to back-to-back wins for the first time this season

THE NUMBERS:

Haiden Dickson – 6 points (4G, 2A)

Brayden Mayea – 6 pts (3G, 3A)

Tanner Cook – 6 pts (3G, 3A)

Tyler Pace – 6 pts (1G, 5A)

Riley Loewen opened the scoring for the Roughnecks at 6:41 of the first quarter, taking a pass from Dickson before firing a sidearm shot around a defender and past Higgins to the stick side.

At the time the Riggers were up 7-0 in shots and they didn’t allow the first shot on Walsh until the mid-way point of the opening quarter.

Dickson increased Calgary’s lead to 2-0 just 29 seconds into the second quarter when he cut into the slot and took a pass from Pace before depositing a shot into the back of the net over Higgins’ left shoulder.

Mathieu Gautier made it 3-0 for the homeside at 3:18 as he also fought his way into the slot before converting a feed from Pace.

Just 21 seconds later, Jeff Teat finally got the visitors on the board when he beat Walsh with a shot from long range.

Undeterred, the Riggers answered back with goals from Dickson at 8:20 and Cook 48 seconds later to extend their lead to 5-1.

After the visitors scored the last goal of the first half and the first three goals of the third quarter, the Riggers responded with a scoring barrage of their own.

Dickson started off the run by whipping a sidearm shot from long range past Higgins for his fourth goal of the game before Mayea scored two quick goals to complete his hattrick and put Calgary up 10-5.

Ottawa got one back late in the third quarter before Cook bounced a shot past Higgins 28 seconds into the final frame.

Following Connor Kearnan’s second goal of the game for the Black Bears, Pace scored on a breakaway to make it 12-7 for the Riggers.

Ottawa counted the next two goals before Cook scored into an empty net with 1:44 remaining on the clock to round out the scoring.
