The Roughnecks treated 13,418 fans at the Scotiabank Saddledome to a spirited affair during the team’s Indigenous Celebration game.
Despite dropping the game 14-8 to the league-leading Saskatchewan Rush (7-1), the Roughnecks (1-6) battled hard until the final buzzer.
Tanner Cook led the way for Calgary with a hat trick and a helper, including a goal with just 7.6 seconds remaining on the clock

Mayea opened the scoring for the Riggers just 35 seconds into the game by bouncing a shot over Scigliano’s left shoulder.
Just 22 seconds later, Loewen made it 2-0 when he raced into the offensive zone before cutting into the slot and firing a shot past the Rush netminder.

Cook then converted a feed from Pace to put the Riggers up 3-0 at 7:34 of the opening frame.
Robert Church finally got the visitors on the board at 13:22 and then added another 24 seconds into the second quarter, which saw the Rush outscore the ’Necks 6-0 to take a 7-3 lead into the halftime break.
Haiden Dickson scored at 3:38 of the third quarter to cut into Saskatchewan’s lead. Dickson drove towards the net before taking a pass from Pace and quickly flicking a shot past Scigliano.

After the Rush answered back, Cook drove hard to the net and bounced a shot past Scigliano before running into the Saskatchewan netminder. Although the goal counted, Cook was assessed a goalie interference penalty on the play.
Shortly after Saskatchewan made it 9-5, Mathieu Gauthier fired up the fans by dropping his gloves to take on Jake Boudreau in a feisty scrap.
Following another goal by the Rush, Brett McIntyre executed a perfect give-and-go with Pace before tucking a shot through Scigliano’s five-hole.
Mayea added his second goal of the contest in the final frame before Cook rounded out the scoring with his late marker.

The Roughnecks head east to play the Ottawa Black Bears on Saturday, Feb. 7 (7 p.m.). The Riggers return to the Saddledome on February 14th and 15th for two home games against the Philadelphia Wings and the Georgia Swarm.
