CALGARY, AB — To the surprise of some, the Maple Ridge Burrards have jumped out to a perfect 4-0 start and are leading the WLA.

That’s in part due to some fantastic goaltending by Frankie Scigliano.

The big man earned two wins last week, beating the Mann Cup champion Victoria Shamrocks and the Nanaimo Timbermen. Against the Shamrocks, Scigliano patrolled the crease for just under 70 minutes, making 38 saves in the process. Against the Timbermen, he stopped 30 of 37 shots, lowering his GAA to 6.32.

It was a rough week for the Shamrocks.

Literally.

After winning their first three games, the ‘Rocks lost both games this week to the Burrards and the New Westminster Salmonbellies.

At times in each game, things got pretty heated and resulted in a barrage of penalty minutes being handed out. Roughnecks Jon Harnett, Greg Harnett, and Tyler Burton accumulated 20, 19, and 12 penalty minutes, respectively.

Jeff Shattler racked up four goals and 10 points in the two games, while Harnett had two assists and Burton had three assists.

Lefty Brandon Goodwin continued his strong play in the WLA by adding a goal and two assists. Goodwin scored the final tally of the contest to help the Salmonbellies earn their first win of the season over Victoria.
