The Roughnecks picked up a tightly contested 14-13 shootout victory in their final preseason tune-up against the Vancouver Warriors in Langley on Saturday night.
The Riggers got off to a quick start against the Warriors with Mathieu Gautier finding the net on the second offensive possession of the game.
Jesse King added to the lead shortly after on the powerplay to make it 2-0.
The Riggers continued to push with Brett McIntyre picking up a rebound and firing it home to make the score 3-0 early.
Vancouver broke the run with a powerplay goal of their own five-minutes into the game to make it 3-1.
The Warriors scored two quickly after, to tie the game, 3-3.
Curtis Dickson regained the lead with a bounce-shot five-h0le to make it 4-3.
Vancouver struck back to even the game up 4-4 with 1:09 remaining in the first-quarter.
McIntyre grabbed his second of the night to make the score 5-4 Riggers after one.
Vancouver tied it up 5-5 five-minutes into the second quarter on a second-chance opportunity.
The Warriors grabbed the lead for the first time of the night with a goal right up the middle making it 6-5.
Vancouver added a powerplay game with 4:13 remaining until halftime to make it 7-5.
Tanner Cook ripped his first of the game to get the Roughnecks back within one, 7-6.
McIntyre picked up a first-half hat-trick to even the score 7-7. with 1:17 remaining in the half.
King got the lead back with his second of the night on the powerplay to make it 8-7 early in the third-quarter.
The Roughnecks extended their lead to two with a goal from Brayden Mayea to make the score 9-7.
Nathaniel Kozevnikov ripped his first as a Roughneck to get the ‘Necks to double digits, 10-7.
Cook found the net on a delayed penalty to extend the run to five making it 11-7.
Vancouver ended the run to make it 11-8 heading into the final quarter.
The Warriors picked up two quick goals to start the final frame and get within one, 11-10.
Austin Ducommun put an end to the Warriors three-goal run and pushed the lead to 12-10.
Vancouver pushed back finding the back of the net with 6:31 remaining to make it 12-11 Roughnecks.
Dane Dobbie struck on the powerplay to make it 13-11 with 4:58 to go in the game.
The Warriors found the net twice late to tie the game 13-13. It would go straight to a shoot out.
Mathieu Gautier scored in Round 7 of the shootout to give the Roughnecks the 14-13 preseason win. Tanner Cook and Brett McIntyre got the other shootout goals.
