After joining Calgary ahead of the 2012 season, Evans quickly made his mark in our city. He led the NLL in scoring in 2013 with 112 points, earning the first of his two league MVP awards. He followed that up with another remarkable campaign in 2015, recording a career-high 130 points to capture his second MVP honour.
During his time with the Roughnecks, Evans became known for his elite vision, relentless competitiveness and ability to create offence from anywhere on the floor. His combination of toughness and playmaking made him one of the most dangerous players of his generation and one of the most memorable to ever represent the Roughnecks.
While the accolades speak for themselves, Evans’ impact extended well beyond the scoresheet. His passion for the game, willingness to battle every night and commitment to winning earned the respect of teammates, coaches and opponents throughout his career.
“First, we would like to congratulate Shawn on being inducted into the NLL Hall of Fame. Shawn was one of the most dynamic offensive players in the league. He scored, had terrific passing vision and was tough as nails. A true warrior. He could hurt you with his offensive talent, whether by scoring himself or setting up big, timely goals, but he also played a scrappy game that made life difficult for opponents,” said Calgary Roughnecks General Manager Mike Board.
The Hall of Fame honour is the latest milestone in a career filled with unforgettable moments and serves as fitting recognition for one of the game’s all-time greats.
Evans joins former Roughnecks Tracey Kelusky, current head coach Josh Sanderson, former head coaches Terry Sanderson and Chris Hall, along with goalie Steve Dietrich, who had a brief stop in Calgary.
Although his NLL playing career has come to a close, Evans’ impact on both the Roughnecks organization and the National Lacrosse League continues to be felt.
Now, his place among the greatest players the game has ever seen is official, his legacy forever etched into the history of the sport.
