How about a great big Yahoo for the Roughnecks.

Tanner Cook scored twice to finish the NLL season with a league-best 49 goals while leading the Roughnecks (6-12) to a 9-8 win over the Colorado Mammoth (12-6) at the Rough House on Saturday in front of 15,340 fans on hand for the Roughnecks Rodeo presented by Cody & Sioux.

Cook added four assists to finish the campaign with 101 points, while Tyler Pace also passed the century mark in points with a two-goal, three-assist performance. Pace also reached another milestone with his 300th career NLL assist.

THE NUMBERS:

Tanner Cook – 6 pts (2G, 4A)

Brayden Mayea – 5 pts (4G,1A)

Tyler Pace – 5 pts (2G, 3A)

Colby Bowman – 47/53 saves

The Mammoth scored two goals on their first three shots prompting Calgary coach Josh Sanderson to replace starting goalie Aden Walsh in net with Colby Bowman.

Although Bowman gave up an early goal as Calgary went down 3-0, he was rock solid for the rest of the first half while the Riggers rallied with a trio of goals of their own to tie things up 3-3.

Mayea got things started at 8:39 of the first quarter when he picked up a rebound before jumping in the air and flicking shot to the top corner over Mammoth goalie Dillon Ward’s right shoulder.

Cook then got behind the Mammoth defence before going airborne while charging forward and depositing a shot past Ward just over three minutes later at 11:58.

Cook tallied the lone goal of the second quarter at the 7:44 mark when he outbattled Mammoth defender Jordan Gilles while sending an underhand shot past Ward with just one hand on his stick.

Justin Inacio lassoed the Riggers their first lead of the game just 14 seconds into the third quarter when he eluded a pair of Colorado defenders before cutting in front of the net and backhanding a bounce shot past Ward for a shorthanded goal.

Unfortunately for the hometown heroes, they wound up in a heap of penalty trouble and the Mammoth tallied three of the next four goals on the powerplay, one on a two-man advantage, to take a 6-5 lead.

Mayea notched his second goal of the contest during that span and completed his hat-trick at 1:45 of the third quarter.

Pace then cut hard to the net and beat Ward through the five-hole at 5:45 of the final frame. After the visitors knotted up the score at 7-7, Pace set up Mayea for a power-play goal at 8:56 before scoring his second of the game 25 seconds later to give the Riggers their first two-goal lead of the night.

The Mammoth added one more goal, but weren’t able to get another past Bowman who earned his second straight win in net for the Riggers.
