CALGARY – The Calgary Roughnecks Lacrosse Club is proud to announce details on a community program, Score for 44 presented by MEG Energy.

The initiative will see Roughnecks forward Dane Dobbie and MEG Energy partner with Special Olympics Calgary, an organization committed to enriching the lives of Albertans with intellectual disabilities through sport. Throughout the regular season, Special Olympics athletes will receive tickets to attend a Roughnecks home game, custom Score for 44 t-shirts and Scotiabank Saddledome concession vouchers. Following the game, the Score for 44 guests will meet Dobbie for photos and autographs.

“I am incredibly honoured to be part of this gratifying program,” said Dobbie. “The game of lacrosse has changed my life for the better by allowing me to be active and providing me with the chance to create lifelong friendships and develop essential life skills. To have the opportunity to share the sport I love with local athletes who often face many challenges means a great deal to me.”

Score for 44 will see close to 150 Special Olympics athletes benefit from the program.

“Special Olympics was founded upon one simple belief; sport has an incredible capacity to transform lives, change attitudes and make communities stronger. By bringing people together, it teaches us to recognize our similarities rather than focusing on our differences,” Kathy Urquhart, Executive Director for Special Olympics Calgary. “We are extremely thankful to the Calgary Roughnecks and MEG Energy for providing this exciting opportunity to our athletes, one, that most of them would never get to experience. Thank you for sharing in our belief about the extraordinary power of sport, and the success that can be had through the benefits of an inclusive, active and fulfilled life.”

Calgary returns to action tomorrow, Saturday, January 28 at 7:00 p.m., when the Colorado Mammoth visit the Scotiabank Saddledome for a Star Was Party. Fans are encouraged to arrive in costume and remain seated during halftime for a special presentation.

The Roughnecks tailgate party returns for all home games, giving fans the opportunity to Come for the Party & Stay for the Game as Dutton’s Lounge and the Chrysler Club open two hours before faceoff and remain open following the contest.
