Calgary, AB – The Calgary Flames Foundation has partnered with KidSport Calgary and the Calgary Flames Sports Bank to deliver Back to Sport Play Packs to families across Calgary. Each Play Pack includes brand new equipment for kids to try out at home and outside along with drills, tips and a water bottle to provide families with the resources needed to get outside and play.
“The Back to Sport play packs are going to have a huge impact on the families and kids receiving them.” highlighted Kevin Webster CEO KidSport Calgary – Calgary Flames Sports Bank. “Sport has been paused, cancelled, restarted and paused again so our hope is this can be a small start to getting kids excited about sport again within their own spaces. By providing brand new equipment we wanted to give these kids confidence, motivation and a sense of pride as they get outside and get active with their new gear. We also want the families we are supporting to know some of the great options that exist in our sport community and how organizations like ours can help when sport is ready to return. Through this outstanding partnership with the Flames Foundation this idea came to life and with the hard work and passion of our many great sport partners it became a reality that we are so proud to share.”
Families can register to receive equipment and supplies for two sports from a variety of options including; street hockey, lacrosse, football, baseball, rugby, tennis, ultimate frisbee, handball, basketball, Australian football, jump rope and badminton. Play Packs are being distributed this month to over 300 low income households in Calgary providing the gift of sport to over 700 local kids. The Packs also include skills and drills sheets from the Roughnecks, Flames, Stampeders, Hitmen and Cavalry that help enable youth to play in an unstructured environment – with limited equipment in their own spaces.
“These play packs are incredibly important in helping families remain active and engaged with sport this spring and summer,” said Candice Goudie, Executive Director of the Calgary Flames Foundation. “We believe in the power of sport in all forms; unstructured, structured and spontaneous. This is about making sure families can get out and play and maybe discover a new sport.”
