Week 5 of the National Lacrosse League is officially closed and yet, the East Division of the league remains flipped on its head.

The Georgia Swarm are not only in first place, they’re unbeaten through 4 games. And the Buffalo Bandits, who played for last year’s Champion’s Cup, are 1-3 and in the East basement.

If you’ve been following the NLL very long, you know how difficult things can be to explain at times. That’s why on Mondays, we let the players and coaches do it with our roundup of quotes from various media sources.

“It was good, it was good. I’m happy to be with this organization as long as I have and to play in this city is great. I had my dad in town and my wife was here, so I had a great experience (Saturday).”

_ Calgary forward Jeff Shattler, to the Calgary Herald, after becoming the franchise’s all-time leader scorer during Saturday’s home win over Colorado.

“He scores a goal and you feel the guys on the bench, they generally care about him. He gets the game ball and the (player of the game) helmet from the guys. Guys are coming up to me saying ‘Coach, it’s got to be Shattler, it’s got to be Shattler,’ and for guys to do that just shows the impression he’s made on them. He’s such a good guy in the locker room.”

_ Calgary coach Curt Malawsky, to the Calgary Herald, after Saturday’s home win over Colorado.

“We got off to a really slow start. All three losses this season have been a very similar theme. We battled and we competed, but we dug ourselves a four-goal hole that we couldn’t climb out of.”

_ Colorado defenseman Joey Cupido, to milehighsports.com, after Saturday’s road loss to Calgary.

“I just hope (Dillon) keeps his head up. This team won’t win without him playing. I don’t think we’re concerned, necessarily, going forward. I just think he’s better than what he’s shown.”

_ Colorado coach Pat Coyle, to milehighsports.com, after Saturday’s road loss to Calgary.

“We’re a product of doing the little things right and we weren’t good in that area.”

_ Toronto coach Matt Sawyer, to the Toronto Sun, after Saturday’s home loss to Rochester.

“I couldn’t be happier to get a win against a team we’ve had trouble against.”

Saskatchewan’s Robert Church, to thestarphoenix.com, after Friday’s home win over a Vancouver Stealth team that won 2 of 3 games last season against the Rush.

“A win’s a win — we’re happy with the result — but, quite frankly, we’d like hold them to less than 12.”

Saskatchewan captain Chris Corbeil, to thestarphoenix.com, after Friday’s 16-12 win at home on Friday over the Vancouver Stealth.

“I thought defensively we struggled for a little bit, then we settled down and Mike Poulin made some great saves for us. To win in this league, you need all facets in your game contributing: Special teams, offense, defense, goaltending, transition. We got contributions in every one of those areas tonight to help us get a tough one on the road.”

_ Ed Comeau, to the gwinnettdailypost.com, following Saturday’s road win over the Vancouver Stealth.
