CALGARY — In an arena not so far, far away, the Calgary Roughnecks will battle the evil Colorado Mammoth Empire in a Star Wars Party at the Rough House.
Here are five things to keep in mind when you’re watching the game:
1) NEW NUMBER ONE
This is a BIG one. Veteran Roughnecks forward Jeff Shattler is on the verge of becoming the franchise leader in points with 629. His seven-point effort a week ago in Denver put him in a tie with Kaleb Toth with 628 points in a Riggers jersey.
Originally drafted 10th overall in the first round by the Buffalo Bandits, he played just one game out east. He made his way to Calgary for the next season and has yet to take off the red and black uniform. Now in his 11th season in Calgary, Shattler has scored 254 goals and 374 assists in 169 games. That’s an average of 3.71 points per game.
Will Shattler be able to record a point this weekend and take sole possession of the Riggers franchise scoring lead?
2) INTENSE GAME
Did you watch last weekend’s game? That contest was filled with big hits, lots of extracurricular activities, and you could sense the animosity between the two teams. With that game fresh in their minds, there’s no doubt it will get heated once again this weekend.
Get ready for a rumble in the Rough House tomorrow night!
3) SPECIAL TEAMS AND TRANSITION
Here’s a stat for you: half of Colorado’s goals last weekend came from the powerplay, a penalty shot, or from having an extra attacker on the floor.
The Mammoth also added three goals in transition. So when the Riggers were able to set up there defence in even strength situations, they held the opponents to a lowly three goals.
With that in mind, the Roughnecks are going to want to avoid the penalty box at all costs. The Mammoth lead the league with a powerplay operating at 63.16%, with 12 goals on the man advantage.
If you keep giving them chances with men in the box, you’re going to get hurt.
4) LOOK OUT FOR DIGGER
Last weekend, Tyler Digby had himself a game, scoring five goals and adding an assist. That really isn’t out of place for the big man. When playing against the Mammoth in his career, he is averaging over two goals per game.
In 12 games against Colorado, Digby has found the back of the net 29 times and has added 25 assists. That means he averages 4.5 points per game against the Riggers Rocky Mountain rival. Look for him to continue his scoring ways against the Mammoth this weekend.
5) SPECIAL STAR WARS ACTIVITIES
